The mantel header from the plain 1.64.100 surround: a panelled beam with a moulded shelf, 1295 mm wide and 238 mm high, projecting 195 mm. Georgian in feel and far simpler than the carved surrounds. Add two Fireplace Surround 1.64.005 legs, or buy the set as Fireplace Surround 1.64.100.

Moulded in polyurethane foam, it is far lighter than a stone or cast surround and fixes with adhesive: use Multipurpose Adhesive 290ml (G10.U.290) to the wall and Joint Adhesive 60ml (G08.S.60) where the parts meet. It arrives white and can be painted any colour, including stone and marble effects. Gaudi call these decorative fireplaces: polyurethane is not a heat-resistant or fire-rated material, so check the clearances required around any live fire, stove or insert with your installer before fitting.
