A modillion, 127 mm long, 86 mm high and 54 mm wide: the small scrolled bracket that repeats in a row under the crown of a Corinthian or Composite cornice. Although we list it as a facade cap, Gaudi class it as an applied (“cover”) element: one of the classical ornaments fixed onto an entablature to give it the full detail of a stone original. Fixed at even spacing beneath the cornice, modillions give the overhang a richly carved, shadowed underside. It is one of the larger modillions in the range; the others are Facade Cap 4.08.302, Facade Cap 4.38.301 and Facade Cap 4.38.302.
Gaudi make it in polyurethane foam, which is light, moisture resistant and supplied white so it can be painted to suit the house. Fix it with Multipurpose Adhesive 290ml (G10.U.290) and seal joints with Joint Adhesive 290ml (G07.S.290) or Joint Adhesive 60ml (G08.S.60). Outdoors, finish it with a good exterior masonry paint once it is fixed; the painted finish protects the surface from sun and weather. Like all polyurethane decor it is decorative rather than structural, so it must not be used to carry any real load.
