A facade frieze (Gaudi call it a “Frise”), supplied in 2 m lengths: 235 mm high and 70 mm deep, with a plain boxed band. In a classical entablature the frieze is the calm, plain band between the cornice above and the architrave below; on a house it adds height and weight over a front door, a bay or a row of windows, and gives the mouldings around it room to stand out. Frieze 4.03.101 is the slimmer, flatter version of the same frieze, and Frieze 4.03.132 is the matching corner piece. To build the band below it, see architrave Frieze 4.04.102.
Made in lightweight polyurethane foam, it won’t rot, crack or swell in the rain the way timber or sand-and-cement mouldings can, and it cuts cleanly with a fine-toothed saw. Use Multipurpose Adhesive 290ml (G10.U.290) to fix it and Joint Adhesive 290ml (G07.S.290) or Joint Adhesive 60ml (G08.S.60) on the joints. Outdoors, finish it with a good exterior masonry paint once it is fixed; the painted finish protects the surface from sun and weather.
